It is a technique used to repeat keywords on the web page to make the page popular for the particular keyword and improve rankings.

What

Keyword stuffing refers to the practice of overloading a web page's HTML code or visible content with meaningless keywords with a view to increase popularity for the particular keyword. It is believed that this could help improve the ranking on search engines for the relevant keywords. But most search engines have altered algorithm to detect keywords which are not in proportion as spam. Keyword stuffing is also called keyword loading and spamming.

Keywords stuffed into the visible text on your web page which makes no sense fails the very purpose of creating a website. If your visitors do not understand your content because it is machine generated keyword garbage then they will not buy your gold plated magnetic, eternal youth rings.

Why

Keywords are stuffed into the content and tags of web pages with a view to increase the chances of the web page appearing in the top rankings of search engine results page for a particular keyword. But, sometimes web masters stuff unrelated keywords into web pages with the hope of attracting ANY kind of traffic whatsoever. This does more harm than good as the user's experience is thoroughly destroyed.

• Keywords are generally, overloaded onto the input type="hidden" field meta tag or the keyword META tags of the web page so only search engines can scan them
  
  
• Sometimes, text is hidden by way of using light text on light background or other 'hidden text' techniques. This text becomes invisible to users unless highlighted.
