Hidden Text
Effective black hat SEO with hidden text
Hide and Go-Seek
Black Hat SEO is about using tools and techniques aimed directly at search engine spiders. They expend considerable efforts in manipulating search engine algorithms. One technique used by them is hidden links and text.
What
Hidden text is basically text that is invisible to visitors to a web page, but is visible only to search engine spiders. It is usually considered spam if it contains list upon lists of relevant keywords. It includes light text created on light background so as not to be visible to an untrained, naked eye. Hidden text proved quite useful back in 1996-97 when search engines where eager to grow their indices and index as many pages as possible. But lately, they have caught on to the hide and seek game SEOs play and mete out severe penalties to defaulters. This method is now considered spam, as it lists machine generated, keyword stuffed jargon.

How
- Text can be hidden using same color text on same background
- Using 'Div' which is usually used to create menus can also be used to hide text. Text contained in 'Div' can be difficult to detect as it uses style sheets. It is also not visible by highlighting the whole page
- By using separate style sheets file. Though Google and other search engines have updated their algorithms against this.
- Using 'no script' to hide text in a tag, accessible only if the users browsers views scripts.
- Artificially increase a web page's keyword density for a given word or phrase. For example, white text on white background, or very very small print.
- To disguise spoilers for readers who do not wish to read the text on a web page. These spoilers contain elements that are only intentionally read or downloaded by visitors.
- Hide text or data from visitors who are less well versed with working the Internet
An effective black hat SEO technique, though it could invite some serious penalties from search engines if detected. You even run the risk of getting your site permanently banned.
