Brochure Designing Tips

Brochure Design forms an ideal marketing device which when implemented to perfection can produce outstanding results. Brochures waxing eloquent about the company - how big it is, how many service lines it has, how many people it employs and how great its products/services are; cease to interest a prospect after a point. Brochure designing requires a marketing strategy.

Prospect In Perspective

  • The objective in mind while designing a brochure for your business never strays from - the prospect or the readers

  • Give readers the information they are looking for - how you can help them, what you have to offer, how your products/services are going to benefit them etc. Readers are more interested in the benefits you have to offer than in the features of your product or service.

  • Give clear instructions to your readers to navigate their way through the brochure

  • Use a conversational tone of voice throughout your brochure to personalize your message as much as possible

Design

  • Use pleasing colors, if required, though too much visual design may distract readers from the content

  • Incorporate enough graphics, charts and other supplementary images relevant to the content to break the monotony

  • Photos, images, graphs and charts should match the context and content

  • Arrangement of all the different features and elements of your brochure should be designed according to its type i.e two-fold, tri-fold or four fold

  • Use dark text on light background instead of the other way round as it is easier to read

Content

  • It is highly recommended to develop your brochure content before you develop your brochure designing to avoid any overlapping

  • Make the reader feel the brochure contains an answer or solution

  • Don't submit to rhetoric or marketing jargon, stick to lucid and intelligent words which get the message across

  • Use creative captions and short paragraphs; not more than 9-10 lines per paragraph

  • Do not use more than three fonts in the entire brochure and make sure there are NO ERRORS or typing mistakes

Layout

  • The cover is your first impression; don't use it for your company name and logo only. Use it to make a lasting impression by creating a theme from the cover page itself or give small progressive briefs leading to a logical conclusion in your body content

  • Do not indent paragraphs with spacing between them or put spaces after periods

  • Break up content with graphics and bullet list in the layout of your brochure design

  • Do not allow graphics and design to overpower the content
